1. For as much as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
2. Even as they delivered them to us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
3. It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus,
1. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.
2. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
1. Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2. Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3. And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
1. And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2. Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungry.
3. And the devil said to him, If you be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
1. And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed on him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2. And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
1. And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
2. And certain of the Pharisees said to them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
3. And Jesus answering them said, Have you not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungered, and they which were with him;
1. Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2. And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick, and ready to die.
3. And when he heard of Jesus, he sent to him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
1. And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2. And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3. And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered to him of their substance. ¶
1. Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
2. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3. And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor money, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
1. After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, where he himself would come.
2. Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray you therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest.
3. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
1. And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2. And he said to them, When you pray, say, Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3. Give us day by day our daily bread.
1. In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so that they stepped one on another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware you of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
3. Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
1. There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
2. And Jesus answering said to them, Suppose you that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
3. I tell you, No: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.
1. And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
2. And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
3. And Jesus answering spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
1. Then drew near to him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
2. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners, and eats with them. ¶
3. And he spoke this parable to them, saying,
1. And he said also to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused to him that he had wasted his goods.
2. And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of you? give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward.
3. Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
1. Then said he to the disciples, It is impossible but that offenses will come: but woe to him, through whom they come!
2. It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. ¶
3. Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
1. And he spoke a parable to them to this end, that men should always to pray, and not to faint;
2. Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3. And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary.
1. And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
1. And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came on him with the elders,
2. And spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority do you these things? or who is he that gave you this authority?
3. And he answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
1. And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
2. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
3. And he said, Of a truth I say to you, that this poor widow has cast in more than they all:
1. Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover.
2. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people. ¶
3. Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
1. And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him to Pilate.
2. And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3. And Pilate asked him, saying, Are you the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, You say it.
1. Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher.
3. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
